InactiveHappy New Year everyone!
I have a miraculous medal that became tarnished. It has tarnished much faster because I wear it all the time and my sweat is kind of “acidic”.
Is it okay to send it to a jeweller and have it coated anew with a gold or silver coating? I have reservations since this medal is already blessed, and I think only non-blessed medals are allowed to be repaired.
Thank you very much and God bless

KeymasterHi raphael. Happy New Year to you as well.
I don’t know a whole lot about medals and all that. I would think that it would be fine to have it cleaned.
Actually I’m not sure why it would make a difference if it was refinished. I would think that preserving it for as long as you can would be a good thing.
Anyway…Benedict, when he comes on next, might be able to answer your question better.

InactivePeace be with all!
Unless it is a Relic, cleaning and refinishing is fine. I would consider having re-blessed but I know of no such requirement.
God Bless!

Inactive“Chalices are often refinished and do not have to be blessed again. So long as the medal is just being refinished it remains what is was when it was blessed and so the blessing remains.”

KeymasterBut if it was melted down and the material was used for something else then that object needs to be re-blessed if so desired.

InactiveI htink you should keep it but dont get it repaired just to be safe, buy a new one to be blessed.
