Science seems stupid sometimes.
Sugar rush leads to sugar crash. We already knew that.
September 12, 2006 at 6:28 pm #6963AnonymousInactivePoweraide and Gatoraide market thier product to lead their consumers to believe otherwise, and it works. But then again, some people don’t drink these products for the ‘energy’, they drink it to give the water some flavor, as I do.

September 13, 2006 at 7:38 am #6969AnonymousInactiveGatorade and Powerade are not energy drinks.
They have sugar in them, but there is not so much sugar that Gatorade causes you to crash.
Their primary purpose, and the point of their marketing, is that they replenish depleted electrolytes. When given the choice between water and Gatorade while working hard (exercising, yard work, etc), you will last longer on Gatorade because it contains a little bit of sugar and a lot of electrolytes.

Exactly what I was going to point out.
September 14, 2006 at 8:17 pm #6973AnonymousInactiveI work on the ramp at the airport in Phoenix. The temperature in the summer can reach 120-130 degrees down there.
Every gate is supplied with two coolers. One has water and the other has Gatorade. The Gatorade is always gone first, even though it is typically warm (they use powdered Gatorade, so they do not put ice in the cooler).
September 14, 2006 at 10:15 pm #6974AnonymousInactiveA couple years ago, when I lived in San Diego, one of the local news stations had an interview with one of the San Diego Chargers and I beileve it was Antonio Gates, the tight end. He said after football games, most of the team drinks Pedialyte, not Gatorade or Poweraide.
September 14, 2006 at 10:39 pm #6975About Catholics TeamKeymasterI think Gatorade or Powerade is good before and during activity, but not after.
I drink it sometimes before I play ultimate frisbee and it gives me a little bit of a boost (from the sugar). But I won’t drink it afterwards because I won’t be burning the sugar nearly as much when I stop moving.

I drink it whilst playing ultimate… I dunno if it helps or not. I drink soda after–not because it helps nutritionally, but because it helps get that pasty salty nasty taste out of my sweat-overwhelmed mouth.
I love ultimate.

Silly silly nonsensical show.
