It’s common to believe the tongues and scattering was a punishment for trying to reach God or be like him, but it’s really for disobeying the command to be fruitfull and multiply and hold dominion over all the earth. Diversity was God’s intention but they were being a collective unit and their arrogance was getting out of hand. Languages corrected the situation and humankind had but one choice – spread out and diversify. It’s not so much as a curse because it’s God’s wish that humankind hold variety.
