    Good evening.
I have joined this group in hopes of reconnecting to my Catholic faith. I have a son 26 and a daughter 3 1/2…yes, my children are 22 years apart and recently started attending mass again after an 8 year hiatus. My husband is Greek Orthodox so we have some similarities with our religion and a few differences. I am going to raise my daughter Catholic as I did my son; my husband has no objections. My daughter was baptised in the Greek Orthodox Church so I am confused as to what I do now to make sure she is Catholic. I know that the Church recognizes a valid Baptism as I was also a convert back in 1990 but I wonder if there is more I need to do on her way to becoming a Catholic and before she reaches the stages of Confession, Communion and Confirmation. She has two God Parents that are also Greek Orthodox and I am not sure if I need her to have some sort of ritual to make her Catholic and if she needs other God Parents that are practicing Catholics. Her Godparents use to be Catholic and converted to Greek Orthodox. I am hoping by joining this forum i can get some answers from anyone with knowledge or who has been there before.
    Regards, Mari

    Mari:

Welcome. Yes your daughter’s baptism is valid, since she is very young, it would simply be a matter of your going to your local Catholic parish, explaining that she was baptized in the G.O. Church, and that you intend to raise her Catholic. Your husband will need to affirm that he has no objections to her being raised Catholic. If he is or wishes to accompany you and your daughter at Mass, (without his receiving Communion) he is welcome, another option is becoming a member of a Byzantine Catholic parish. In that way you will be able to raise your daughter fully Catholic, but with the same liturgical rites that your husband is familar with. I’m not sure where you live, but in most major cities in the US and Canada there are Byzantine Catholic parishes that serve the needs of those who have been raised in the Eastern Traditions of the Church.
