November 15, 2006 at 8:56 am #7412 AnonymousInactive It means chair. The Holy See is a reference to an office. Just as a king’s authority is symbolized by his throne, so a bishop’s authority is symbolized by his see. The Pope, as a bishop, has his own see and it is singularly known as the Holy See.
