I agree! I think that John Paul II’s work will continue and that our new Holy Father will help guide us back in line with our faith. My concern is that Americans, of which I am, will continue to think of ourselves special and requiring different “rules” then the rest of the Roman Catholic world has.
It is time the church in the States comes full circle with the rest of the world instead of think it is special and requiring different rules. Maybe this was a little offensive to some, but we have had this mind set way too long my brother and sisters and we need to unify and come complete with out faith.
My prayer is that this new Pope will complete John Paul’s work not only to unify Christains, but us here in the States to Mother Church in fullness!

Yes, it seems that many Americans don’t understand that the Church cannot change its position on many things. In the media they seemed to portray this papal election as a political campaign where the pope has issues to confront and how much change he will bring to the Church.What many people fail to realize is that the gospel is supposed to transform you, not you tailor the gospel to your liking.

I agree. We are so special that we ruined our church. It is time to clean house, so to speak, and figure out if we are Catholics or are we a church that bows down to every whim that society can throw at it. Instead of trying to down play our Catholicism, we need to celebrate it. Teach our children what true Catholicism really is, not the watered down, peace and love version. Peace and love are great, but God is better.
Towards the end of my process of coming into the Church I noticed that in the past 15 years there has been a wave of converts coming into the Church. I suppose to some this can be seen as nothing special. But the amount of people coming in was higher and much more influential (Scott Hahn, Steve Ray, Tim Staples, etc.). It just made me think that maybe God is preparing us for something. By US I mean the Church but more specifically American Catholics. Could mean nothing but its deffinately interesting in my opinion.

[/quote:1dmmyf7b]I doubt it preparation, but he does test us to see if our faith and our love is true. Maybe that is it. He [God] is testing the faithful in America. I know that it upsets me to see the difference between the Church here and what is the Church everywhere else. The I read the Canon and see some of these special dispensation granted to the US and other countries for cultural unity or whatever.
The faith should not be compromised for any reason. In my mind it cheapens the faith.

No the Church isn’t ruined, nor do I believe She’d let herself be ruined by us. We are only hurting ourselves but this delusion we are creating. We must stop it and practice our faith in whole and pray for those who are missing the fullness of our faith.

No house cleaning, we need to simply educate our flock better and more completely. We are guilty of our own demise in this country. This has lead to the many moral pitfalls we have and why faiths “adjust” for the times.
The faith can never adjust, then its not faith, its an illusion man creates to justify his sin. Faith is of God and is necessary for our growth and existence! God’s providence provides us these choices. But to make the right ones, we have to listen, pray, listen, and learn. We need to start doing more of this.
