    When a soul goes to Purgatory does it know it’s there and not in hell? If so how does it know.

    I would think so. I would think the purifying flames feel different than the flames of punishment (all metaphorical of course).

    Think of it this way: hell is the only place where God isn’t. I bet it’s terrible “feeling”.
