InactiveI aks everyone’s prayers for a few atheists I know. Their viewpoints on life are so absurdly depressing that it jsut makes me want to scream. And arguments do not have any effect, obviously. The only thing I can do is pray for them but I wouldn’t mind some help!
Thanks

Keymasteryou bet, man. Like what kind of stuff are you talking about? What is their viewpoint?

InactiveAbortion is needed because all of the unfortunate children in the world are so tragic, and we need to kill them before they are born so that they never have to go hungry. Granted, they wouldn’t say it in so many words, but they WOULD say it.
Also, they just have absurd views of Catholicism. They think the Church supported Facism (sp?), murdered native americans, mistreats women, etc. etc. It is sad because they really believe all this nonsense…
They also think it is absurd to say sex should only stay in marriage… And many other disturbing things. Just really terrible stuff. I mean, I always knew there were peopel liek this in the world, but to know a few closely is downright scary.

InactiveYou’re telling me.

InactiveThis could be starting a whole new post, but dont you think its possible that as a nation we are “destroying” future great leaders. The ammount of children caught up in abortion is astronomical. I think its absurde. A womans right to choose? Where do you stop it? Then we get into youth in aisia and all sorts of messed up views. What makes a child more a child inbetween the 4-24 hours before and after its born? The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach!

InactiveI know. I literally felt sick after hearing one of the views they expressed…
Another thing: One of them is convinced that religion is the reason for all the problems in the world… there is no convincing someone like that otherwise. It is terribly depressing.

I’m sure you mean euthanasia, right?[quote:24uutlkm]One of them is convinced that religion is the reason for all the problems in the world…[/quote:24uutlkm]
Let me guess – it’s because religion is controlling and doesn’t allow people to think for themselves? Is that their argument?May 11, 2005 at 6:27 pm #4529Anonymous

Perhaps a look into a society with no religion will clear that up for him. Would you find problems in these societies? But of course.
My philosophy professor once said “It is human to be religious. It is as if we were programmed to search for a diety.”Uncertaindrummer, my approach for someone like these two atheist usually revolves around listening to them and asking questions. It would make no sense using bible verses and things of that nature. St. Paul used philosophy and I’m sure limited science with the Bereans and the Thessalonians. But most importantly he spent time with them and got to know them and listened. This obviously takes time and patience. I’m sure there was plenty of prayer in the midst as well.

InactiveOh I know. I certainly haven’t been throwing Bible verses at them–none of them believe in the Bible!
Actually, this is their argument, Jon: George Bush got elected because of all us “Jesus Freaks” ignoring REAL political issues and voting jsut based on moral issues. Hence, relgigion is the cause of all the problems in the world, since Bush is the cause of all the problems in the world.
P.S. I’m no Bush fan, either.
