Last week we took a tour of 4 Amish houses and farms and of course we could not take pics of them and they also don’t have mirrors in there houses.I was told originally they were Protestants then minorities then became Amish religion, any thoughts about no pics and graven images?
They do not take photographs or allow themselves to be photographed. To do so would be evidence of vanity and pride. Also, it might violate the prohibition in Exodus 20:4, the second of the Ten Commandments: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that…is in the earth…”[/color:3fm7hffr]
In the Catholic Bible,Exodus 20:4 reads ”Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth” [/color:3fm7hffr]
A graven image, or graven thing is like a scuplture. It really goes along with “thou shalt have no other gods before me” in meaning.
That’s what I thought also.
