There I go again, getting caught by not fact checking. The Flying Spaghetti Monster phenomina was an invention Bobby Henderson, in 2005 then a 25-year-old Oregon State University physics graduate, sent an open letter regarding the Flying Spaghetti Monster to the Kansas State Board of Education.

It has grown into an Athiest cause celebre. I was thinking of Richard Dawson, not Christoper D, who was an Anglican clergyman who converted to the RCC in the early 1900’s and later was condemned for the heretical Modernist views he published.
