To put my thoughts on the hero of the Reformation concise and simple, I would humbly borrow the harsh but wise words our most venerable St. Polycarp gave when asked by another famous heretic of his time – Marcion – if he recognized him:

Such were the words of a Saint and a Church Father, unlike Luther.
