[quote:33bcvm6k]There have been different ideas over time about the best way to eliminate abortion in the United States.

Some sides say we just need to pass a law against it and everything will be just fine and others say that criminalizing abortion will not deter it, but make it more dangerous than it already is. Educating women (and men) about the alternatives to abortion will make it rare.

So, I throw this out for discussion – [b:33bcvm6k]what do you think is the best way to eliminate abortion?[/b:33bcvm6k]

I think there are merits to both sides.

Ideally it would be nice to have a law against them, but how much will that actually stop abortions? I see our duty as Christians to share the gospel with people which means we need to be proactive about our values and the ways we achieve them.

Now, it may be common for any one of us to know that there are hundreds of alternatives to abortion, but believe it or not there are plenty of people who know nothing about these alternatives. I think it would be great if there was a greater awareness made about these alternatives.

Instead of just praying the rosary outside an abortion clinic (which is good, prayers are always needed) why not calmly approach people and discuss the alternatives with the women that go in and let them know of the thousands of couples looking to adopt. In fact, I think this is a good approach for people looking to adopt, but we can discuss methods and tactics at a later point.

My point is that I think a combination of law and education will change people’s minds about abortion and the atrocity it really is. Making laws and putting people in jail because they broke them will not change the impact the situation dramatically enough. We need to take a proactive response as well.[/quote:33bcvm6k]

A ten foot pole…………………………….. and here it goes. <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

I would like to see a change in the law that now allows “partial birth abortions”. This is as good a place to start as any because most people, even those who are “pro-choice”, have a hard time defending this “procedure”. Sure, the hardcore pro-choice people will say, “It protects the mother’s life.” But I believe that most people know that is seldom the case.

But I also agree that if we outlaw all abortion they will still take place. They will return to the underground clinics. So the real hope to save lives is in education and in pro-life people reaching out to those in need with love.

I teach massage therapy. In my last class 2 out of the 5 female students had an abortion. One unmarried woman dropped out of school to have a baby. I was told she had an abortion too. I happened to run into her and her baby the other day. Was I ever thrilled to have her baby take ahold of my finger and hold on so very tight. <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> I feel so sorry for the other two though……….and their babies <img decoding=” title=”Sad” />
