The thing to remember about confession is that you are confessing your sins to Jesus. Nothin or no one loves you more than Jesus and he wants you to be reconciled with him. He wants nothing more than for you to walk side by side with him in life.

To the best of my knowledge the Church rules state that if you are aware you are in a state of mortal sin then you must go to reconciliation (confession) before you receive the body and blood of our Lord.
