I think you mean 2 Corinthians 5:20.
The closest thing I know off-hand is the existence of Apostolic Succession. Since the Early Fathers wrote about it, it must have been important for some reason. That reason would be, logically, the Apostles were vicars of Christ, if not in authority than surely in knowledge of the faith.
